We believe that sound legal analysis will promote security, welfare, and the rule of law. We conduct research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, law, and policy and advise governments, international organizations, public institutions, and private actors. About the role

We’re seeking our first dedicated talent professional to lead recruitment and hiring at LawAI, supporting our growing teams and amplifying our fieldbuilding efforts. As we continue to expand across multiple jurisdictions and attract increasing interest in our work, we need someone who can establish robust hiring systems, design effective application processes, and ensure we attract and select exceptional talent. This is a hands-on role managing day-to-day recruitment operations, developing systems for candidate sourcing and evaluation, and providing crucial support to hiring managers in building high-performing teams. We’re open to hiring candidates with a range of experience levels, and we’ll adapt the role title and responsibilities based on individual qualifications.

This is more than an average recruiting role – you would be instrumental in scaling a fast-growing organization by making sure we have access to the best available talent.

Your main responsibilities would include:

  • Working with the leadership team to define roles, create job descriptions, and identify candidate archetypes for open positions.
  • Designing and managing end-to-end application processes that are efficient, easy-to-use (for both candidates and LawAI staff), and effectively assess for key competencies.
  • Actively sourcing and headhunting candidates through multiple channels, and building talent pipelines for current and future needs.
  • Stewarding candidates through all hiring rounds, ensuring an excellent candidate experience and timely communication.
  • Coordinating interviews, collecting feedback, and summarizing information for hiring managers to support decision-making.
  • Liaising with our operations team to ensure hiring processes comply with employment law across US, EU, and UK jurisdictions.
  • Tracking recruitment metrics and providing insights to improve hiring outcomes and efficiency.
  • Managing relationships with external partners, job boards, and talent platforms as needed.
  • Developing employer branding materials and recruitment content to attract top talent.
  • Working with our operations team to build and maintain systems (Airtable, ATS tools, etc.) for tracking candidates and managing hiring workflows.

In addition to this, more senior versions of this role will also:

  • Develop and implement LawAI’s overall talent strategy, including workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Advise leadership on talent acquisition trends, compensation benchmarking, and competitive positioning.
  • Establish talent assessment frameworks and hiring best practices across the organization.
  • Mentor and potentially manage junior recruitment staff as the team grows.

About you

You might be a good fit for this work if you have:

  • A strong background in recruitment or talent acquisition, with experience managing intensive recruitment rounds alongside steady-state hiring for professional or knowledge-work roles.
  • A demonstrated ability to source passive candidates and build talent pipelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with candidates, hiring managers, and leadership.
  • Hands-on experience designing application processes, interview structures, and candidate assessment methods.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple hiring processes simultaneously.

In addition to this, candidates for more senior versions of this role will also have:

  • Knowledge of and networks in the AI talent ecosystem.
  • Experience developing talent strategies and advising senior leadership on workforce planning.
  • A track record of building or significantly improving recruitment functions from the ground up.
  • Experience managing recruitment across multiple countries or jurisdictions.

This role might also benefit from you having some of the following qualifications, although you could still be a highly competitive candidate even if you don’t have any of them:

  • Experience recruiting for think tanks, academic institutes, research organizations, or mission-driven nonprofits.
  • Familiarity with US, EU, and/or UK legal education and talent market dynamics.
  • Interest in AI, law, or technology policy.
  • Comfort with remote collaboration tools (e.g. Slack, Google Workspace, Airtable) and applicant tracking systems.

All of the above said, there’s no such thing as a perfect candidate; we don’t expect a successful hire to excel in all of the dimensions here. If you’re on the fence about applying because you are unsure whether you are qualified, we strongly encourage you to apply.
