A five-day gathering of law students, professionals, and academics eager to explore pressing issues at the intersection of AI, law, and policy in Europe.

Applications are now open — Apply by May 31, 2025, and we will be in touch no later than June 16th.

Overview

Hosted by the Institute for Law & AI (LawAI), the Cambridge Forum on Law and AI aims to equip current and future legal scholars with the knowledge, tools, and networks they need to build careers in legal research, analysis, and policymaking to address challenges in the law of artificial intelligence that have implications for security, welfare, and the rule of law. The first iteration of the Cambridge Forum on Law and AI will focus on EU law. You can learn more about our focus on EU law in this overview of our Workstreams and Research Directions.

Content

The Cambridge Forum on Law and AI will feature presentations, fireside chats and Q&As with researchers, practitioners and policymakers. The Forum will have a particular focus on general-purpose AI models with systemic risk under EU law, while also covering fundamental principles of EU law and the challenges of applying legal analysis to AI’s rapidly evolving landscape of risks and opportunities (e.g., AI agents). The event will address concrete mechanisms and legal instruments for applying and creating future-proof regulation of general-purpose AI, alongside examining the role of existing institutions, procedures, and legal frameworks in enforcing the AI Act.

Attendees will learn about central ideas and concepts in the field and discuss them with leading experts in an informal and collaborative setting. The structured programming is complemented by opportunities for smaller group meetings and one-on-one conversations between participants. Participants will also have the opportunity to give short lightning talks to present their working papers, projects, and ideas to spur discussion and get feedback.
