Stephan is a Research Scholar at LawAI. His research focuses on U.S. law and policy regarding frontier AI governance. Before joining LawAI, he advised clients on transactional matters at Latham & Watkins LLP and Milbank LLP. Stephan previously researched global governance mechanisms for high-risk AI at the University of Chicago’s Existential Risk Laboratory and worked to build out a nonprofit advocating for safe and secure emerging technologies. Stephan holds a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served on the Michigan Law Review and finished in the top twenty graduates in his class. He also holds undergraduate business degrees from the University of Southern California, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Bocconi University.
