Dipl.-Jur. Tarmio Frei, LL.B., is a doctoral candidate and research assistant at Bucerius Law School (Hamburg, Germany), where he researches the regulation of AI companions and other anthropomorphic conversational agents from an EU and comparative law perspective. His work focuses on AI governance, transparency, product liability, and relational vulnerability, with a particular interest in how risks can be addressed throughout the whole AI value chain — from general-purpose AI models to downstream AI systems. He also serves as Germany Country Correspondent for the Journal of AI Law and Regulation (AIRe).
