Seasonal Research Fellowships

FAQ

Do you accept applicants from all countries?
  • Applicants for the US and EU Law streams should have prior legal experience through study or work in those jurisdictions. We also encourage applications from individuals who have studied or practiced US and EU Law, but are now based elsewhere.
  • For the Legal Frontiers track, applicants from all jurisdictions are eligible, including those without a primary background in law.
Do you consider applicants without prior experience in AI, law and policy?

Yes. While candidates should have an interest in AI, law and policy and be prepared to apply their research abilities and legal knowledge to questions in our field, prior experience or expertise in AI-specific research is not required.

Is the fellowship remote or in-person?

Seasonal Research Fellowships are remote-first, with opportunities for in-person participation.

    • Legal Frontiers: June 15–August 21, remote-first with the option to join US/EU in-person weeks or co-work from Cambridge, UK.
Do you consider applicants without formal law training or experience?
  • Generally not for the US and EU Law tracks, as they require a strong understanding of the legal principles applicable to AI regulation in the jurisdictions we focus on. To be considered, candidates should have formal training of some kind.
  • For the Legal Frontiers stream, we welcome applicants without a primary background in law. We encourage those with backgrounds in computer science, public policy, economics, history, psychology, or physics to apply.
Do you require proficiency in English?

Yes. We expect fellows to actively engage in discussions, collaborations, and presentations. For this reason, we require full professional fluency in both spoken and written English.

Do you accept professionals?

Yes. Practicing lawyers, law/policy researchers, and academics are encouraged to apply. We highly value relevant experience.

Are Seasonal Research Fellowships paid?

Yes. Compensation is provided on a weekly basis, with rates varying by track and work location.

  • US Law and Policy: $1,500 per week.
  • EU Law: €1,000 per week. Fellows based in Cambridge, UK, will receive an additional €1,000/£867 per week for living costs.
  • Legal Frontiers: Compensation will match working location, comparable to the above tracks. Fellows based in Cambridge, UK, will receive an additional €1,000/£867 per week for living costs.

NOTE: Candidates with exceptional experience or qualifications may be eligible for higher compensation.

Do I need work authorization to be eligible?

Yes, fellows must have valid work authorization in the country where they will be working. If you receive an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to support visa sponsorship. However, our ability to do so depends on the candidate and their location, and the relevant authorities ultimately determine eligibility.

Can you provide personalized feedback?

Unfortunately, no. While we carefully review every application, the high volume of submissions (over 4,000 in the last cycle) means we are unable to offer individualized feedback.

What’s the best way to learn about upcoming fellowships?

We encourage you to stay connected with us through our newsletter and LinkedIn for updates on fellowship opportunities, events, and other ways to engage with our work.

Do you offer long term roles?

Yes, please see our open positions here. Seasonal Fellowships are also a great way to get involved and can serve as a stepping stone toward full-time opportunities with us.
