Dr Matthijs Maas

Matthijs is a Senior Research Fellow at LawAI. His work focuses on mapping theories of change for long-term AI governance, different international institutional designs for AI, and the effect of AI on international law. He is an associate fellow with the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence. He also serves as an expert member of the Consultative Network of the UN High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence, as well as the Global Commission on Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain. Matthijs received a PhD in Law from the University of Copenhagen, and a MSc in International Relations from the University of Edinburgh. He has previous experience working at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies and the Dutch Embassy in Beirut, amongst others.
